Grocery store employee dies in fatal pedestrian accident

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2017 | Wrongful Death

While it may seem like a busy parking lot could be a hotbed for accidents, in fact pedestrian accidents can take place at just about any time, as one recent Massachusetts incident shows.

Recently, a pedestrian was struck by a car in a grocery store parking lot. This particular grocery store was located in Acton. The 62-year-old victim worked at the store. She was hit by a vehicle that was backing out of a parking lot. She was leaving work at the time of the incident. The driver of the vehicle was an 18-year-old male. Unfortunately, the victim did not survive the accident.

Sadly, this woman’s family and indeed her whole community will have to find some way to move on without her. Difficult as it may be, they must find some way to cope with the loss in their lives. However, they may be unprepared for the financial costs that follow a loved one’s death.

When a person dies, they may have incurred medical expenses leading up to the time of death. Moreover there are funeral costs and burial costs to contend with. Finally, families are left without the wages and companionship their loved one provided. If their loved one was the main income-earner in the family, this can be particularly difficult to deal with.

In times like these, the victim’s loved ones may seek to hold the negligent party accountable. One way to do this is to pursue a wrongful death suit. By doing so, surviving family members can seek financial compensation for their losses. Of course, no amount of money can truly compensate for the loss of a loved one. However, it can at least alleviate some of the stress that accompanies the death of a loved one, so the family can focus on healing emotionally.
