Car accidents by the numbers

On Behalf of | Nov 14, 2014 | Car Accidents

Car accidents are a significant concern in Massachusetts and all throughout the country. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car accidents are the leading cause of death of those ages 11 through 27. In 2012, there were 30,800 fatal traffic crashes in the United States. The number of fatal crashes was up from 29,867 in 2011 and 30,296 in 2010.

The number of fatalities caused by motor vehicle crashes in 2012 was 33,561. In 2011, the number of fatalities attributed to motor vehicle crashes was 32,479, and in 2010, the number of fatalities was 32,999. Each of these figures represents lives lost in car accidents and also represents families that have lost loved ones. In addition to fatalities, car accidents also lead to injuries which can be serious and debilitating following a traffic crash.

In 2012, the number of people injured in traffic crashes was well over 2 million. This was also true in both 2011 and 2010. Both motor vehicle accident fatalities and injuries are up from previous years. According to the NHTSA, in 2012, Massachusetts had 349 traffic accident fatalities. Because car accidents can cause unexpected devastation to both victims and their families, there may be options available for victims to consider to hold negligent drivers accountable and to allow them to receive assistance with damages.

Victims and their families may experience a wide-ranging variety of damages following a car accident. Damages can be physical, financial or emotional in nature. Because of the impact damages can have on the lives of car accident victims, compensation may be available to those who have wrongfully suffered harm.
