Recounting details may be critical in Massachusetts car accidents

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2012 | Car Accidents

Car accidents can be very stressful. As a result, staying organized in the wake of a crash can be helpful.

Recently, the wife of Massachusetts Congressman John Tierney was injured in a car collision. The auto accident took place when her vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle. Complete details of the car accident are not known at this time and it is also unclear if the other driver will be cited by police. An accident investigation is still being conducted.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, there is a car accident somewhere in the country ever 10 seconds. Car accidents also account for the majority of personal injury claims in the U.S. It is recommended that those involved in a car accident write down a detailed account of the accident immediately after it occurs. This should be done after ensuring the safety of everyone involved in the accident and after any necessary medical treatment has been sought.

When possible, write down the injuries, both physical and mental, such as depression or any anxiety that occur as the result of the collision. It is important to see a doctor to determine the extent of the injuries suffered, since some can be aggravated over time.

Injuries, as well as financial losses, may be compensable. For that reason, notes should also be kept as to reduced work hours or lost economic opportunities. Compensation in the form of damages may be available for these types of injuries, so careful accounting is desirable.

Creating an accurate retelling of the events leading up to and immediately after a car crash can be of tremendous benefit. Over time, a person can forget critical details or provide an inaccurate portrayal of events. This is exactly why it’s critical to get an accurate account of your story as soon as possible.
