Accurate information helps prove liability in Boston-area crashes

On Behalf of | Nov 19, 2012 | Car Accidents

Collecting as much information as possible at the crash site following the incident can prove to be invaluable for those injured in a car accident. A recent Boston-area car accident sent a 78-year-old man to the hospital. The multi-car crash resulted when an SUV sped over a grassy median, slamming into two other vehicles.

The SUV was driven by a respected doctor from the area, who has been accused of prescribing medication to herself. The prescription medication has been suggested as a potential cause of the crash, but driver insists the accident was caused by a vehicle malfunction. The doctor has pleaded not guilty to driving while under the influence of prescription drugs. The crash was also captured on video.

Every ten seconds someone in the United States is involved in a car accident. To prove fault when injured in a car collision, a video of the accident may prove rather useful, but that may not be available in every situation. A police report can be valuable for insurance and civil claim lawsuit purposes.

If a police officer is available at the crash, it is important to request a police report, but can also be arrested in the days after the crash. The law enforcement official’s opinion on who caused the accident, as well as any traffic citations issued in the wake of the crash, will likely be included in the report.

Traffic laws are also important information to have to establish that the conduct of another driver was at fault for the car crash. These traffic regulations are readily available to drivers who seek them out. If a traffic violation causes a crash, it may also establish negligence per se in some courts.

It can be difficult but obtaining as much information about the accident following its occurrence can help to determine liability and damages later on. This can help those injured secure compensation for their pain and suffering.
