The family of a deceased Worcester man may have a wrongful death claim against the driver who was involved in a car-bicycle accident that took the life of the well-known local musician. Massachusetts police have not yet determined the cause of the fatal accident, but the investigation is ongoing. The musician, who was married with one child, was 48 years old.
The fatal crash took place in Worcester earlier this week when the musician rode his bike across the street in front of the oncoming car. The driver, whose identity has not been released, reportedly attempted to swerve his vehicle out of the musician’s path, but those efforts were not successful, and the car crashed into the bike. It is not yet known which person had the right of way or whether any laws were broken.
According to police reports, the collision caused the musician to suffer serious head injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Friends of the deceased man describe him as a “strong rider in good shape” who could often be seen riding his bike throughout Worcester. A well-known local musician, the man often played at venues around the city, and had even written many songs about Worcester.
If the driver is found to be at least partially responsible for the accident and the musician’s death, the wife and son of the deceased man could seek damages for medical and funeral expenses, current and future financial losses, and loss of companionship, among others.
