Motorcyclist, passenger injured after being struck by a car

On Behalf of | Apr 20, 2017 | Motorcycle Accidents

Winters in Massachusetts are long, so once the ice and snow have melted and sunny warmer days arrive, people are itching to get outside and enjoy the weather. When warm weather is in the forecast, motorcyclists are ready to take their bikes out of storage and go for a ride. Whether they ride for pleasure, or simply as a quick way to get from point A to point B, it is important for all drivers in Massachusetts to pay attention to their surroundings, including the presence of motorcyclists. It only takes one moment of inattention to cause a serious motorcycle accident.

A motorcyclist and his passenger are lucky to be alive after suffering severe leg injuries when they were struck by a car that had weaved into the lane of traffic they were riding in. The accident took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. in Swampscott, Massachusetts. The driver of the motorcycle was a man, age 51, and his passenger was a woman, age 40. The man’s leg was severely bleeding, prompting a neighbor to apply a tourniquet until help arrived.

The man was flown to an area hospital, and the woman was sent to the hospital via ambulance. The driver of the car that struck the motorcyclist was also sent to the hospital, to determine if she was hurt in the crash. So far, the woman that struck the motorcyclist has not been charged. The incident is being investigated by police.

Even non-fatal motorcycle accidents can be costly. Injuries such as broken bones, road rash and head injuries can take weeks or even months to recover from, if a full recovery is even possible at all. With every passing moment, the medical bills are mounting and the injured motorcyclist is feeling the financial pinch of lost wages from being unable to work. On top of this is the pain and suffering the motorcyclist may endure after being involved in a wreck. Therefore, motorcyclists injured in accidents caused by another motorist may want to work with an attorney, to determine whether it is appropriate to take legal action against that driver.
