Recovery from a truck accident can be extensive which is why victims may need help with the damages suffered as the result of a truck accident. A garbage truck in neighboring Boston recently struck a bicyclist; following the accident, the bicyclist was trapped under the garbage truck. The accident occurred at an intersection as the bicyclist was riding a rented bicycle rented through the Hubway program. The bicyclist’s leg was trapped under the garbage truck. According to police, the bicyclist suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident.

Due to the nature of trucks and truck accidents, victims of truck accidents can suffer serious injuries. Victims who have suffered injuries and harm because of the negligence of a truck driver, such as an inattentive truck driver, unqualified truck driver of truck driver who was speeding, may be able to recover damages through a personal injury lawsuit. In some cases, depending on the circumstances, a trucking company may also be responsible for the victim’s damages.

In other situations, a government entity may be liable for the harm the victim has suffered. It is important to understand that when bringing a claim for negligence against a government entity, additional requirements and specific timelines that sometimes must be followed. In many jurisdictions, the injured victim must first file an administrative claim with the government entity which provides notice of the victim’s claim. If the government entity denies the claim, the victim may then pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the government.

Victims injured in truck accidents, unfortunately, likely have an in-depth understanding of the physical, financial and emotional damages that often result from a truck accident. Understanding how to pursue the various parties that may be liable for the victim’s damages may be equally important.
